Entry Mid-Range Models : $599 - $1000
Every year the line up in this range changes, as I find new makers and new models and even better value. There is now more choice with different brands offering slightly different construction methods, with the Alhambra guitar models deliver power and projection needed for AMEB exams and serious study.
On the other hand, the Alhambra 2F and 3F are great entry level specialised Flamenco guitars. While the Alhambra Z Cutaway and the Antonio Pinto Carvalho Cutaways are great if you need a guitar for busking, gigging or school ensemble and you need the easy plug-and-play of inbuilt Fishman amplification.

A very balanced and resonant classical guitar with the traditional resonance and warmth of Cedar and excellent playability.
It is lyrical and parents buying the first classical guitar for their children seem to be enchanted and instantly taken with it.
Daniel Nistico, in his review on the GuitarsOnline YouTube channel, was particularly impressed with this model, noting its higher-grade solid top, integrated Spanish heel for enhanced resonance, and the added power and projection from the gloss finish.
He likened the difference to moving from a four-cylinder to a V8 engine, highlighting its evenness, power, and excellent value for money.
You can also see a video comparing this guitar with different string options in Daniel Nistico's playlist.

The Alhambra Z-Nature is a new models that comes in under the 1C also with a solid Cedar top, fully made in Spain at the Alhambra workshop with a matte look as opposed to lacquered. It’s not quite as punchy as the 1C but is great value since it is very open and loud with good note definition and projection and very easy action.
It is aimed at Schools and at the entry level player wanting the true Spanish sound delivered by a solid cedar top together with “Spanish heel” construction that so few entry level guitar feature, due to the painstaking attention to detail it requires. The result you can hear the difference in every note. It was launched at the Sydney Classical Guitar Society summer school and teachers loved and thought it was great value compared to anything else on the market. Good news is that it is the first affordable solid top, Spanish made guitar made without compromise.
At this price, this guitar is a breakthrough. Made in Spain entirely by craftsmen it has a superb cedar top. This wood, as well as providing great colour, gives the guitar a great sound It is ideal for those who are venturing into the world of guitar playing for the first time. This classical model has a very ergonomic neck perfect for beginners looking for ease of play. However, one thing about this guitar is the low environmental footprint left by its manufacture, because this type of wood is natural and not lacquered. This also makes the guitar very loud and resonant and an excellent guitar for school ensemble playing. What’s more, this instrument is presented with a modern matte finish.

Notes
We had been searching for years for a good quality entry level solid top under $500.
We found it in the Antonio Pinto Lusitana and 1C Open Pore and even the 1C High Gloss featuring a quality lacquered finish to add extra punch and projection.
But we could not resist the extra value offered by this guitar the model 3.
Yes, it slightly more than our self- imposed budget of $500 but it delivers so much more, so we just had to add it to our entry level range.
This is the third step featuring an even higher quality Solid Cedar top ideal for more serious players.
Again we chose because it’s construction and lacquered finish are better than those of much more expensive models.

The Alhambra 1C, priced at $899 falls slightly above the entry-level price point but is an excellent option for those willing to stretch their budget.
This iconic Spanish-made guitar features a solid Cedar top and Sapele back and sides.
Daniel Nistico's review highlights its quality Cedar top, powerful internal bracing, and lacquered finish, delivering the warmth and power of Cedar with a generous roundness.
He noted that while it might be a little sweeter and not as punchy as some others, it offers a beautiful, projecting tone with great sustain up the neck.

Scale – 650/636/610/580/544
Top – Solid Cedar or Solid Spruce
Back and Sides – Laminate Sappelli
Fret board – Solid Rosewood
Machine heads – Silver
Notes – This is Alhambra’s entry level model featuring a high quality Cedar or Spruce top or an excellent 2nd stage guitar. Once you have decided you want to get serious with your playing.
Although it is slightly more than some of it’s imitators and it is an entry level guitar in terms of Alhambra don’t let this fool you because Alhambra put only the best tops on their guitars and lavish attention and care on all of their guitars. This is the reason why it is the biggest seller in Australia and around the world second only to the Alhambra 4P the biggest seller at the intermediate level.
The 1C comes in shorter scale lengths of ½ size (544mm) for very young beginners, ¾ (610) for growing players, 7/8 (636) for players requiring an almost full size guitar but not quite stretching enough in terms of hand span. The full size 650 scale length guitar offers the growing student a full size guitar sound in a more manageable playing sized instrument.
More expensive than your bargain basement guitar however the difference is, this instrument will train the musical ear as well as enabling the young player to enjoy the fruits of their musical labour.

Well this is a blast of nostalgia. I had heard of these but never seen one as it were in “the flesh”.
The Cachimba guitars line up was commissioned by Dr Peter Calvo who founded the Sydney Guitar School in 1969, which latter became AIM.
Finding there were few quality Classical guitars suitable for teaching the Classical repertoire available in Sydney.
He commissioned a small factory in Nagoya, Japan. To make him a series of models from 1-10 for his burgeoning student base. This is a high-end model 8.

Daniel Nistico when playing and reviewing the Cachimba 8 said “ This is wonderful Guitar, I like what it says here on the label “crafted from choice materials under strict supervision of the Sydney Spanish Guitar Centre”. About the Maker
Born in 1963 in the province of Cadiz, the Spanish luthier Rafael Romero Barroso began playing guitar at age twelve as a disciple of Rafael Escudier. By the time he was sixteen, he was performing alongside such renowned artists as "Chano Lotabo", "Rancapino", "Curro Malena" and "El Chato de la Isla."
During this period, he met Mario Melero Deudero (b. 1927), a Spanish guitar maker also from Cadiz, and discovering his true vocation apprenticed with him. When Mario retired, in fact, he passed his tools on to Rafael, who like his teacher, continues to build handmade classical and flamenco guitars using traditional tools and techniques.
Later, traveling to Madrid, he met the guitar maker Jose Romero, who encouraged and supported his efforts. Among the luthiers from whose friendship and advice he has profited, he also mentions Vicente Carrillo Casas. Among his clientele are such artists as Manuel Parrilla, Juan Parrilla, Moraito Chico, "El Carbonero" and Alberto San Miguel, professor of guitar at the Conservatory of Music in Granada. He brings to his flamenco and classical guitars both the knowledge of his craft and the sensibilities of a professional guitarist

The Alhambra Z-Nature CW is a new models that comes in under the 1C also with a solid Cedar top, fully made in Spain at the Alhambra workshop with a matte look as opposed to lacquered. It’s not quite as punchy as the 1C but is

It is aimed at Schools and at the entry level player wanting the true Spanish sound delivered by a solid cedar top together with “Spanish heel” construction that so few entry level guitar feature, due to the painstaking attention to detail it requires. The result you can hear the difference in
every note. It was launched at the Sydney Classical Guitar Society summer

Alhambra 1C
The hands down winner on value for money criteria would have to be the Alhambra 1C since it had a quality solid top and being thinly lacquered delivers punch and precision. On the other hand if the budget reaches the Alhambra 2C and 3C have superior harmonic tops and deliver improved tone and playability. Just check out the online demos for all three and you will hear the difference.
