About the Maker
Born in 1963 in the province of Cadiz, the Spanish luthier Rafael Romero Barroso began playing guitar at age twelve as a disciple of Rafael Escudier. By the time he was sixteen, he was performing alongside such renowned artists as "Chano Lotabo", "Rancapino", "Curro Malena" and "El Chato de la Isla."
During this period, he met Mario Melero Deudero (b. 1927), a Spanish guitar maker also from Cadiz, and discovering his true vocation apprenticed with him. When Mario retired, in fact, he passed his tools on to Rafael, who like his teacher, continues to build handmade classical and flamenco guitars using traditional tools and techniques.
Later, traveling to Madrid, he met the guitar maker Jose Romero, who encouraged and supported his efforts.
Among the luthiers from whose friendship and advice he has profited, he also mentions Vicente Carrillo Casas.
Among his clientele are such artists as Manuel Parrilla, Juan Parrilla, Moraito Chico, "El Carbonero" and Alberto San Miguel, professor of guitar at the Conservatory of Music in Granada.
He brings to his flamenco and classical guitars both the knowledge of his craft and the sensibilities of a professional guitarist

Finally, the Rafael Romero 120 ($2050 ) is another model from the same respected luthier as the Ziricote model.
A second-hand Rafael Romero 120 provides another opportunity to own a guitar from a skilled Spanish luthier, with the spruce top offering a different tonal profile compared to the Ziricote model.
Its "bright" sound from the spruce top, offers a contrast to the potentially warmer tones of a cedar-topped guitar. This guitar is very interesting to play dare I say exciting in superb condition, is very well set up and delivers punch and projection in its delivery or dynamics and the price is undeniable value.
Dan Nistico when reviewing it and playing said “Beautiful instrument made in Spain. Let’s have a listen. Robust and powerful and quite bright form the Spruce. Let’s try above the 12 Fret. (Plays) Yes, very nice a lot of volume it really has a lot of punch. Very nice . Good for Bach like an Allemande requiring a lot of clarity. (Plays) nice sustain. Very nice, very nice and then plays a gig in the style of Bach to showcase a lot of the beautiful clarity, sustain, projection and punch.”
About the maker
Well this is a blast of nostalgia. I had heard of these but never seen one as it were in “the flesh”.
The Cachimba guitars line up was commissioned by Dr Peter Calvo who founded the Sydney Guitar School in 1969, which latter became AIM.
Finding there were few quality Classical guitars suitable for teaching the Classical repertoire available in Sydney.
He commissioned a small factory in Nagoya, Japan. To make him a series of models from 1-10 for his burgeoning student base. This is a high-end model 8.

This guitar has a solid top and all solid Indian rosewood back and sides, with a strong rich classical tone suitable for the stage.
The top of the guitar is the vital component for generating sound, vibrating as each string is plucked.
With solid top guitars, the more this soundboard vibrates, the more this single piece of wood adapts and ‘opens up’ which improves the quality of sound as the guitar ages..
Dan Nistico thought the NS-600 is “very nice and open, great sound” very revealing especially with tremolo technique.

Just arrived a rare Smallman copy Falkiner Lattice.
Rare because most players keep one as a back up for their $26,000 Smallman Lattice so they seldom come onto the second-hand market.
I also have ready for shipping the new models, this 2020 guitar plays beautifully and really responds to light touch right hand technique with power and precisions.
In summary it punches well above its weight and @ $1350 is great value.

The Alhambra Z-Nature is a new models that comes in under the 1C also with a solid Cedar top, fully made in Spain at the Alhambra workshop with a matte look as opposed to lacquered. It’s not quite as punchy as the 1C but is great value since it is very open and loud with good note definition and projection and very easy action.
It is aimed at Schools and at the entry level player wanting the true Spanish sound delivered by a solid cedar top together with “Spanish heel” construction that so few entry level guitar feature, due to the painstaking attention to detail it requires. The result you can hear the difference in every note. It was launched at the Sydney Classical Guitar Society summer school and teachers loved and thought it was great value compared to anything else on the market. Good news is that it is the first affordable solid top, Spanish made guitar made without compromise.
At this price, this guitar is a breakthrough. Made in Spain entirely by craftsmen it has a superb cedar top. This wood, as well as providing great colour, gives the guitar a great sound It is ideal for those who are venturing into the world of guitar playing for the first time. This classical model has a very ergonomic neck perfect for beginners looking for ease of play. However, one thing about this guitar is the low environmental footprint left by its manufacture, because this type of wood is natural and not lacquered. This also makes the guitar very loud and resonant and an excellent guitar for school ensemble playing. What’s more, this instrument is presented with a modern matte finish.

The Alhambra 1C, priced at $899 falls slightly above the entry-level price point but is an excellent option for those willing to stretch their budget.
This iconic Spanish-made guitar features a solid Cedar top and Sapele back and sides.
Daniel Nistico's review highlights its quality Cedar top, powerful internal bracing, and lacquered finish, delivering the warmth and power of Cedar with a generous roundness.
He noted that while it might be a little sweeter and not as punchy as some others, it offers a beautiful, projecting tone with great sustain up the neck.

Back and Sides – Laminate Sappelli
Fret board – Solid Rosewood

Notes – This is Alhambra’s entry level model featuring a high quality Cedar or Spruce top or an excellent 2nd stage guitar. Once you have decided you want to get serious with your playing.
Although it is slightly more than some of it’s imitators and it is an entry level guitar in terms of Alhambra don’t let this fool you because Alhambra put only the best tops on their guitars and lavish attention and care on all of their guitars. This is the reason why it is the biggest seller in Australia and around the world second only to the Alhambra 4P the biggest seller at the intermediate level.
The 1C comes in shorter scale lengths of ½ size (544mm) for very young beginners, ¾ (610) for growing players, 7/8 (636) for players requiring an almost full size guitar but not quite stretching enough in terms of hand span. The full size 650 scale length guitar offers the growing student a full size guitar sound in a more manageable playing sized instrument.
More expensive than your bargain basement guitar however the difference is, this instrument will train the musical ear as well as enabling the young player to enjoy the fruits of their musical labour.

The Handcrafted instruments of Antonio Pinto Carvalho made in Portugal enjoy a high reputation for its careful construction and good woods.

This is our entry level model featuring a high-quality Oregon Spruce top ideal for entry level serious players. It’s construction and finish are commensurate with those of much more expensive models.

A very balanced and resonant classical guitar with the traditional resonance and warmth of Cedar and excellent playability.
It is lyrical and parents buying the first classical guitar for their children seem to be enchanted and instantly taken with it.
Daniel Nistico, in his review on the GuitarsOnline YouTube channel, was particularly impressed with this model, noting its higher-grade solid top, integrated Spanish heel for enhanced resonance, and the added power and projection from the gloss finish.
He likened the difference to moving from a four-cylinder to a V8 engine, highlighting its evenness, power, and excellent value for money.
You can also see a video comparing this guitar with different string options in Daniel Nistico's playlist.

About the Maker
This is a very well-made copy of a Spanish blanca guitar at a very reasonable price considering it is new. I wish I had a guitar as good as this when I started studying flamenco. It was selected and set up to high grade flamenco standards by well known flamenco player and teacher Anthony Hadjion.
It is a very good flamenco guitar; I'd recommend it to anyone wanting something well-made and with good sound at a low price. Having imported flamenco guitars for over 20 years from Spain I know a little about how a flamenco guitar is supposed to Yes, of course you can do better with a Conde, Prudencio Saez or Ramirez but you are also spending 10X for more sound; this one would measures very well. It sounds beautiful and very flamenco.
And comparing, it has good projection and tone, and looks very nicer.
The action is very good, Just right; not to low as to buzz, but definitely not too high as to make playing hard. It play's very well.
And it's beautiful. The pictures looks great. The tuning mechanism is plated brass on the sides, giving it a golden, elegant look, and the keys themselves are very nice

This is a Juan Estruch classical guitar, made sometime between 1960 (round, unsigned and unnumbered label) in Barcelona, Spain. This was a small maker, and the guitar does look handmade. All solid wood and a nice rosette and bridge. The back and sides are cypress so it is a blanca, and all binding is wood. All original, Easy to play & a very warm flamenco sound!
From the web :
Estruch is one of the oldest still existing guitar workshops in Spain, started more than 130 years ago in Barcelona. Today it is a leading company with a number of very successful guitars in the collection, and a member of "El Gremio de Maestros Artesanos de la Guitarra Española" (The Guild of Master Builders of Spanish Guitars).

It has a wonderful, singing tone with just a tiny hint of crispiness. Slightly brighter tone overall than a normal classical. A distinctive and pleasant tone that I never get tired of. And, as the spruce top matures, it sounds better all the time.
The action is very low and easy to play. Very suitable for moving quickly up and down the neck. The finish and craftsmanship are top-notch.

The Alhambra Z-Nature CW is a new models that comes in under the 1C also with a solid Cedar top, fully made in Spain at the Alhambra workshop with a matte look as opposed to lacquered. It’s not quite as punchy as the 1C but is
great value since it is very open and loud with good note definition
and projection and very easy action.
It is aimed at Schools and at the entry level player wanting the true Spanish sound delivered by a solid cedar top together with “Spanish heel” construction that so few entry level guitar feature, due to the painstaking attention to detail it requires. The result you can hear the difference in
every note. It was launched at the Sydney Classical Guitar Society summer
school and teachers loved and thought it was great value compared to
anything else on the market. Good news is that it is the first affordable solid top, Spanish made guitar made without compromise.

Condition Report
One very careful owner who has recently transitioned to a full classical guitar. This Yamaha NCX is in a new condition
Style
With their sleek single-cutaway body shapes, appealing wood choices, colorful rosette patterns, and tasteful appointments, NX Series guitars are designed for contemporary players seeking the perfect combination of comfort and style.
Bracing
As a result of precise measurement and experimentation, several refinements were made that enhance low-frequency response without compromising durability. These changes were further refined to emphasize the natural characteristics of specific tonewoods, and optimized for each body silhouette
Atmosfeel Controls
The simple and intuitive Atmosfeel preamp controls let you blend the microphone sound into the premixed pickup sound.
These simplified controls mean that guitarists are able to dial in the desired settings quickly and without the need to actually look at the controls
Atmosfeel Pickup and Preamp System
The Yamaha Atmosfeel pickup system provides unparalleled amplified sound even at performance-level volumes. An undersaddle piezo pickup with individual string sensors captures only the mid and low-mid frequencies (eliminating the characteristic brittleness of piezo pickups), while a unique synthetic sheet transducer captures the highs, and an internal microphone captures overall body resonance and “airiness.”
Daniel Nistico’s review said a beautiful plug in guitars it sounds good acoustically also. Quite surprised how good it sounds it’s very resonant, good for gigs, weddings etc. Very resonant classical electric. Plays in drop D scales and strums and single note runs. That’s nice, very nice intonation, very playable Plays the Bach Chacone “That nice, very nice intonation very playable” plays Andecy by Andew York showing clarity and resonance and tonal richness.
