Manuel Adalid is a Master Luthier from Valencia Spain and head of the Francisco Esteve guitars.
He is widely respected as one of Spain’s most experimental and innovative guitars maker.
His instruments have been played by top guitarist throughout the world.
The La Catedral is Manuel Adalid’s top guitar made personally and incorporates a lifetime of guitar building by a maker at the peak of his building. La Catedral has superb tone, excellent projection and playability.
This Catedral is the best of several that I have had through the years it was personally selected in Madrid by a very discerning and experienced collector and player.
As a double top it is very easy to play and responsive.
It gives immediacy of response in the trebles and displays perfect evenness across the strings and balance between basses and trebles with ringing clarity in the trebles with unfailing string separation and clarity in the voicing.
In performing baroque repertoire, the Cathedral produces admirable clarity, in the Romantic repertoire it delivers the required sweetness and in 20th Century repertoire such as Villalobos and Ponce it delivers sonority and lyricism.

High Quality Materials and Finishes
In addition to the use of solid Madagascar in the back and sides, a high-quality cedar top, a Schaller Grand Tune Classic Hauser machine heads and bone in the nut and saddle were used to create this instrument.
The finish of the Premier Pro Madagascar model has been made in gloss, using nitrocellulose lacquer varnish for the top offering greater flexibility and therefore, greater capacity of vibration to the top. This contributes directly to the sound of the guitar.

José Maria Vilaplana is the head luthier and one of the founding partners of Alhambra, S.L. Although he is deeply involved in maintaining the high quality of their guitars, he continues to work as a luthier, making their top of the line concert classical guitar models for the most demanding professional guitarists, building these with the finest materials, totally handmade guitars using traditional methods. Only 12 of these models are made each year.
The bass has a free flowing effortless character which that just seems to float in midair. The transitional mid-range is well balanced and smooth with a lack of pluminess so often associated with this area which moves effortlessly into the treble with a melting cantabile quality. This guitar will make an outstanding performance instrument for the most demanding of players. It's a guitar that doesn’t have to shout to make itself heard, its voice simply permeates the furthest reaches of the recital hall. Just touching it is an incredible experience, the beautiful finish; I should say the perfect finish, the incredible quality of Solid German Spruce top with very tight and regular nodules all across it. The back and sides are made of gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood.
The revolutionary floating bracing pattern gives it a really phenomenal tone and projection, amazingly rich and refined. Its fullness, tone quality, craftsmanship, volume, projection, and playability are superb. This guitar is a wonderful example of the fine work of the luthiers at Alhambra. This is by far one of the best guitar you will play.
PROVENANCE
This is one of two guitars belonging to the collection of the excellent and renown player. He has now upgraded to the latest Vilaplana NT as well as to a Paulino Bernabe Especial Spruce. So, it time to reluctantly part ways with two of his favourite guitars. Both are in superb condition and come with case.
All the work of playing them in has been done and you will be taking over two of the best concert guitars to come on the market at and excellent value for money price.

The Luthier - Javier Mengual
Javier Mengual joined Alhambra Company in August 1972 when he was 16 years old.
As soon as he started working, he felt curious about many of the different works done in the guitar manufacturing process and he got a higher degree in the different areas of the company: sawmill (where every single piece is crafted), varnishing, sanding and polishing process are familiar to him.
In 1988 José María Vilaplana was looking for someone else to work into his personal workshop. There, he learnt from José María Vilaplana and he started to wholly make the guitars at the Luthier level.
Since then, almost 25 years has passed and all of them have been getting experience and knowledge from hundreds of professional guitarists.
The Alhambra Maestro Luthier, Mengual y Margarit features exquisite finishing and tremendous sound potential that provides the artist with the indispensable tools needed to express his musical ideas to the fullest perfection.
