Richard Tedesco - Flamenco Guitarist/Musical Director

“Richard Tedesco is a Melbourne based flamenco guitarist,  musical director of  the acclaimed flamenco group Arte Kanela and co founder of the Kanela Flamenco Bar.”

He has been part of the diverse cultural fabric of Australia as a representative of the flamenco guitar for over 30 years and continually performs and creates to the highest of standards.

Richard has been involved in productions which include The House of Bernarda Alba (Musical Director), Artistic Director of Duende at the Melbourne Concert Hall, Sangre Flamenca and Flamenco Rocks, as well as performances at festivals; Womad Adelaide, Womad NZ, Byron Bay Blues Fest (Cat Empire) and the respective International Festivals in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne, has allowed Richard to be recognised as one of Australia's leading flamenco guitarist.

Performances with Arte Kanela have inspired two films by prominent directors Roger Spottiswoode (El Toque de un Beso) and Rhys Graham (Una Noche de Verano).

Richard’s appreciation and discipline for the guitar has allowed for in-depth exploration into personal technique, musical expression and rhythmic approaches which remain true to the archaic and anarchic nature of flamenco.

Richard believes that a healthy respect for tradition combined with a desire to story tell with music allows for true exploration, improvisation and interpretation of the instrument and the music he represents.

An interview with the incredible flamenco guitar performer and teacher, Richard Tedesco.

Richard gives his insight into the discipline needed to become a successful flamenco player.
